DIXON QUALIFIES MILLER LITE RAIL 10TH ON FRIDAY AT BRISTOL

BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 28, 2006) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon raced his Miller Lite dragster to the No. 10 qualifying position Friday at Bristol Dragway after recording a 4.686-second pass as qualifying kicked-off for the sixth annual O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals.

After missing the tune-up on the opening pass and coasting to a 10.847-second run, the 38-time NHRA winner used a tune-up from crew chief Don Bender to blast his Miller Lite rail to a performance of 4.686 seconds at 311.92 mph to position the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil dragster in the 10th qualifying spot. Dixon qualified seventh at the Bristol race last year.

"The first run, we had some clutch issues and it shook the tires," Dixon said. "We came back and adjusted for it and the car shot out really well, but put a cylinder out and we ended up running on just seven cylinders. The good news is that we picked up the early numbers, so the adjustments that Donnie (Bender) made were good, but it ended up running on seven cylinder two seconds into the run and when you're missing 1,000 horsepower, it just doesn't run as good. We'll make some adjustments and try to pick up on Saturday."

Dixon, who entered the event ranked third in the Top Fuel standings, looks to move into the top half of the Top Fuel order when qualifying continues at 1 and 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday at Bristol Dragway. Dixon won the Bristol event in 2002.
