Friday's qualifying action in Bristol finds a consistent Kurt Johnson sitting third.

The first day of qualifying for the Mac Tools NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals found Kurt Johnson continuing to display the consistent performance that had powered his ACDelco Cavalier to two wins in the last three races. On each attempt, Johnson was among the quickest in the 33-car Pro Stock field, with his best effort of 6.912 seconds, at 200.44 mph placing him third heading into Saturday's final two sessions.

"This ACDelco Chevrolet is just a jewel right now, responding predictably, and going down the track on every run. Most importantly, it's very consistent, as seen by our two 6.91s today.

"We made some changes for our second run, but it was still a little soft for what the track had to offer. Of course, where your car is running as well as ours is, you try to avoid making wholesale changes unless they are absolutely necessary.

"We may try a new motor tomorrow to see how the car reacts, as well as some other changes. We expect the weather tomorrow will make it hard for any one to pick up a significant amount, but if we pick up compared to our competitors, we know we're heading in the right direction.
