Kalitta Motorsports qualifies all three dragsters in top-half of Bristol field

Bristol, Tenn., May 1, 2004 -- At the sixth stop on the 23-event NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series tour at Bristol Dragway for the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals, Kalitta Motorsports qualified all three of their Top Fuel hot rods in the top-half of the 16-car final eliminations field for Sunday.

Doug Kalitta, driver of the Mac Tools dragster leads the way for the three-car Kalitta effort from the No. 2 spot. His 4.530-sec., 326.32-mph blast in Friday's second qualifying session sets up a first round match-up with No. 15 qualifier David Baca.

In the Mac Tools/Jesse James nitro entry, Scott Kalitta will face No. 11 qualifier Clay Millican in the opening stanza after his 4.569-sec., 327.66-mph lap Friday night landed him in the No. 6 qualifying slot.

Kalitta Air dragster driver David Grubnic drove his rail into the No. 3 position with his 4.532-sec., 323.89-mph pass Friday night. He will face No. 14 qualifier Scott Palmer in Sunday's opening round of eliminations.

Cousins Doug and Scott will each be vying for their 16th NHRA national event victory, while Grubnic tries for his first event trophy.

Pre-race ceremonies for the final day of racing at the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals Sunday begin at 11:00 a.m. Top Fuel leads the day of eliminations at noon.
