Maryland Driver Unhappy after Missing Starting Lineup

BRISTOL, Tenn., May 17, 2008 -- Justin Humphreys made one qualifying run Saturday, but it wasn't enough to put his RaceRedi Motorsports Pontiac GXP into the 16-car field for Sunday's O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.

And he wasn't very happy when a small fuel leak forced him to abort his last attempt.

"We had issues Friday and didn't get any data," Humphreys said, "and we went into today kind of in a bind. We made the best run we could make (6.758 seconds at 204.35 mph) without having any data. And then before we went out for our last run, we changed motors and somebody forgot to tighten the fuel line."

When NHRA starting line officials saw the fuel, they had Humphreys shut off the engine.

"Not qualifying in the last two races cost us a lot of points," he said. "We'll probably drop out of the top 10. We're going to go home, regroup, test and get the car's performance sorted out and then go to Topeka (May 30-June 2)."
