GOODYEAR-SHOD CARS WIN FOUR OF EIGHT AT NHRA BRISTOL RACE

BRISTOL, Tenn. (July 8, 2007) -- John Force collected his first victory of the season, leading four Goodyear-equipped drivers to victory in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. There were eight categories in competition.

Goodyear now has 57 wins in NHRA national competition this season. That figure leads the tire industry.

Force's victory was a popular one. It upped his mark of consecutive seasons with at least one victory to 21. The record is 22 seasons, set by Warren Johnson.

The other Goodyear-shod winners included Brandon Bernstein (in Top Fuel), Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock) and Peter Biondo (Super Stock).

Force beat Cruz Pedregon in the Funny Car finals. It was the 196th time Force has appeared in the final round and his 123rd win.

Bernstein had an amazing day in his Top Fuel car. He won two rounds with terrific driving, getting on and off the accelerator while his opponent tried to do the same and couldn't. Bernstein beat Bob Vandergriff in the finals. Vandergriff made it to the final round after qualifying 16th in the 16-car eliminations field.

Coughlin's victory margin over Kenny Koretsky was estimated at nine inches. Koretsky was quicker off the starting line and Coughlin needed every bit of the quarter-mile to run him down.

Biondo's victory in Super Stock was his 29th in national event competition. His reaction time (.011 of a second) was the difference in the race.
