National Hot Rod Association: Pro Stock racer Greg Anderson claimed his first final round victory in a national event to lead the Goodyear charge. Goodyear racers won six of the 11divisions in which the tire maker had an entry in the MAC Tools Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol, Tenn.

Anderson, a former mechanic for Pro Stock legend Warren Johnson, narrowly edged Jim Yates to get the win. The margin of victory was just 0.005 of a second. Ironically, Johnson lost in the first round of eliminations.

Warren Johnson still leads the standings, however. He leads Kurt Johnson 431-424.

Doug Kalitta won the Top Fuel final, beating Tony Schumacher. Kenny Bernstein had the lowest elapsed time (4.574 seconds) and the highest top speed (319.07 mph).

Larry Dixon leads the Top Fuel standings 475-459 over Mike Dunn.

In Funny Car, Ron Capps won his first final round of the season, defeating Al Hoffman. It was the third straight event in which a Don `The Snake' Prudhomme-owned car has won a final round.

John Force leads Bruce Sarver, 496-424, in the Funny Car points chase.

David Rampy won the Competition Eliminator title, Ricky Hall won the Super Gas final and Quain Stott won the final in the Pro Mod exhibition final.
