Cruz Pedregon Ready For Successful Outing in Bristol
Bristol, Tenn., April 26, 2004 -- Former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon heads to Bristol Dragway with one goal in mind -- win the race. A goal that the California native has been able to accomplish 22 times in his career in 44 final rounds. He's qualified for 200 events in his 13 years of racing and has a record of 271-178 against his fellow Funny Car competitors.
"Every race we go to the goal is to win," said Pedregon. "Fortunately in my career I've been able to experience that thrill several times. But it's been to long since I've been to the winner circle. We're close and I feel it could happen this weekend."
"In 1999, Bristol was the first race for me as team owner and driver so it's a special place for me. We've come a long way since then and it would be nice to pull out the victory. The performance is there and the car is getting more consistent every race."
This also marks the first race of the season where Pedregon's primary sponsor, Advance Auto Parts will get the opportunity to come out and spend the weekend with the team. The corporate office is based in Roanoke, Virginia and some of the team members are planning to make the trek over to Bristol Dragway.
"I really enjoy having the Advance Auto Parts team members at the races with us," said Pedregon. "Our hospitality rig will be full of employees, managers and associates all weekend. There support of this drag racing team is huge and we're looking forward to spending time with them and giving them something to cheer about on Sunday."
The Advance Auto Parts Racing team will begin qualifying on Friday, April 30th with two rounds slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Two more rounds of qualifying are scheduled for Saturday, May, 1 at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Final eliminations are on Sunday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m.
