SCHUMACHER 10th AFTER RAIN-SHORTENED SESSION

BRAINERD, Minn., August 13, 2010 - Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher drove the U.S. Army Top Fuel Dragster into the 10th spot after rain shortened today's qualifying session to a single round for the 29th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals here at Brainerd International Raceway.

The Chicago-area native will have two additional runs tomorrow to improve his starting position for Sunday's eliminations in this, the final regular -season race before the Countdown to 1 playoffs begin Labor Day weekend at the MAC Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.

"Our goal is to win this race, which will give us a real confidence boost and solidify our second-place in the standings going into the Countdown," said Schumacher, who now leads Cory McClenathan (second in Friday's session) by 30 points.

"The car felt good off the start and ran really well for a bit, but then we spun the tires. I know Mike (crew chief Green) and the Army team will figure the track out and make the right adjustments for tomorrow and the race.

"Like the Army Strong men and women serving around the globe who have to adjust to ever-changing conditions, our Army team adapts to the situation at hand."

The reigning and seven-time NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel Champion ran a 5.127- second 1,000-foot lap at 137.67 miles per hour.

"Sure we were disappointed we didn't run better," he said. "But I know my team and my car, so I have confidence we'll improve tomorrow."

Schumacher's U.S. Army Racing teammate, Antron Brown, sits in the 9th spot following a 5.106-second pass at 140.23 mph. Brown, who drives the Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster, is seeking his first victory of the year; he has five final round appearances this season.

In the U.S. Army NASCAR Racing camp, Ryan Newman today qualified 17th for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup CARFAX 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
