Two-time, defending champion clocks possible National Record: Tony Schumacher clocks fastest speed in NHRA history

Tony Schumacher, of Long Grove, Ill., piloted his U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster to a potential new National record for speed in the world's fastest motorsport - a 337.58 mph effort at the 24th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, at Brainerd International Raceway (Brainerd, Minn.).

The final qualifying session for the event is slated for 2 p.m. today, with Sunday's race set to begin at 11 a.m. Ideal weather conditions may produce even quicker times this afternoon. Schumacher will need to back up his performance with another similar run to set the record.
