Team Jeg's is prepared for battle in Minnesota.
Team Jeg's drivers Jeg and Troy Coughlin will return to racing action this weekend at the Rugged Liner NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota. Both drivers are looking for a strong outing at the sixteenth event of the season as they work to build momentum for the upcoming Mac Tools US Nationals.
Jeg Coughlin has served notice over the past several races that he is very much a serious contender for the 2002 POWERade Pro Stock Championship. The 2000 series champion has won two of the past four races leading up to this weekend's event and hopes to keep his string of strong performances alive with another great outing this weekend.
"Brainerd has typically been a strong track for us in years past," explained Jeg. "We have been able to gain a lot of ground in the points over the past several weeks. If we continue to execute well we should have an excellent opportunity to keep the momentum building. We have come to a critical point in the season. The battle for the 2002 championship will continue to intensify and we hope to make Team Jeg's a big part of the equation."
Troy Coughlin is also hopeful for a strong performance in Brainerd. Troy already has one win to his credit in 2002. He is hopeful that a victory in Minnesota can take away the sting of a less than optimal west coast swing for the Topeka champion.
"It was unfortunate that we struggled a bit out west," said Troy. "Fortunately, we have a great group here at Team Jeg's that doesn't stay down for long. We have had a week to regroup and I am confident that we will be ready for battle when we roll the yellow and black into the staging lanes this weekend."
Jeg and Troy occupy the third and fifteenth positions respectively in the 2002 POWERade Points Chase. Qualifying for the 21st Annual Rugged Liner NHRA Nationals will begin Friday, August 16.
