SONOMA WIN HAS HIGHT RIDING HIGH INTO BRAINERD

BRAINERD, MN (August 3, 2008) --- Robert "Top Gun" Hight will be heading into Brainerd International Raceway for the 28th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals as the most recent Funny Car winner but he is not looking backwards. Hight has three more races to move past Tim Wilkerson into the critical number one position in the Funny Car point standings before the Countdown to One begins following the US Nationals. Hight is focused on the number one spot and the extra point edge.

"Being number one in the Funny Car points heading into the Countdown to One will be critical. You get an extra twenty points and with only six races for the championship those twenty points could be the difference," said the two-time championship runner-up.

Last season Hight finished just 19 points behind eventual POWERade champion Tony Pedregon and he does not want to give history the chance to repeat itself.

Two weeks ago in Sonoma Hight fulfilled the dream of anyone who as ever gone to an NHRA race and dared to dream big. For over twenty years Hight has attended the NHRA national event at Infineon Raceway. He has enjoyed the races as a spectator rooting for Kenny Bernstein and John Force. He enjoyed the races as a crew member and as a driver for John Force.

Two weeks ago he was able to enjoy the races from a new vantage point; race winner. By defeating Del Worsham. Tony Pedregon, Cruz Pedregon and former teammate Gary Densham, Hight was able to extend to three years in a row the number of times a JFR driver has won that race. In 2006 teammate Eric Medlen grabbed the win and last season team leader John Force won an emotional race just months after Medlen succumbed to injuries suffered in a March testing accident. For Hight the win was a special moment that he will never forget.

"It's unbelievable. It's always been a dream of mine to win at this race track since I've been driving. I actually have been at every event contested here, every national event. I knew that I could do that job. To finally get a chance to do the job for John, to work on his car for a lot of years, and now to drive one of the best Funny Cars in the nation is like a dream come true. I grew up in Northern California. This would be the closest race track to where I used to live," said Hight.

While Hight enjoyed success at Infineon Raceway he is hoping to use that momentum to create some good luck at Brainerd. Hight's previous three efforts in Brainerd have been less than stellar. Last season was the first time in three tries that he moved beyond the first round losing to John Force in the semi-finals.

By his own admission Hight thinks he has one of the best Funny Cars on the POWERade Series and few would argue. As the NHRA continues to race at the 1000 ft. distance Hight is the owner of both the quickest (4.056 seconds) and fastest runs (304.39 mph) this season at 1000 feet.
