Herbert reaches the quarterfinals in Brainerd

BRAINERD, MN, post-race: Doug Herbert advanced to the quarterfinals on Sunday at the 25th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Minnesota. Herbert drove the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster to six solid runs during the weekend, including his first round win since tuning consultants Jim Brissette and John Smith joined up with Herbert in Seattle.

The rain was falling lightly as the fans filled Brainerd International Raceway for Sunday's eliminations. The NHRA Safety Safari valiantly began drying the track early in the morning and worked diligently to prepare the racing surface for the start of racing at 11 a.m. Unfortunately, the rain refused to cooperate and the start of eliminations was delayed by almost three hours.

Herbert qualified the Snap-on Tools dragster 14th and was paired up against Larry Dixon during the first round of eliminations. Herbert left the starting first with a .075 to .090 reaction time and the Snap-on Tools dragster thundered to a 4.613 at 320.51 mph to take the victory.

With a strong threat of rain still in the area the Snap-on Tools crew worked quickly to prepare for Herbert's second round match up against Morgan Lucas. Herbert left the starting line first but Lucas nipped Herbert at the finish line with a 4.607 at 312.06 mph to Herbert's 4.620 at 319.52 mph.

"All in all the weekend was pretty successful," Herbert stated. "We made six good runs down the track and didn't break any parts, so it feels like the Snap-on Tools team is really coming together. We have all the right tools here to run as well as anybody, now we just have to figure out how to put it all together."
