Herbert Looking Forward to Brainerd
Doug Herbert and the SnaponFranchise.com Top Fuel dragster will compete in the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals from Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn. this weekend, Aug. 7-10. The Snap-on team is looking to rebound from a first-round loss in Sonoma, Calif. two weeks ago.
In that event Herbert qualified No. 4 with an ET of 3.839 seconds, his quickest pass since the transition to the 1,000-foot distance, but had a foul start and an early end to his race day. Still firmly ranked eighth in the NHRA POWERade point standings, Herbert and the Snap-on team are close to clinching a spot in the "Countdown to 1" playoffs.
Last year at Brainerd International Raceway Herbert qualified No. 15 and lost in the first round to Brandon Bernstein. This weekend's race will be his 16th of the 2008 season. He has scored one win and has made three semifinal and four quarterfinal appearances.
"The best thing about Brainerd is that it's always a lot fun," said Herbert. "The fans make it fun. The other good thing is that I usually do well there. I've never won but I've had pretty good luck. Well, except for last year. We went out first round, I think the car smoked the tires right off the line. This year we'll have a better weekend, I'm sure."
"Snap-on brings out a lot of people each year," said Herbert. All the fans at Brainerd camp. There's probably a few hundred Snap-on guests that camp, along with the 10 million other fans! Whenever I go out to the campground to hang out with the Snap-on guys we'll walk around to meet people or ride around on the golf cart and give out hats and shirts and all kinds of stuff. That's really fun because you're out there with the fans, hanging out with them."
