BOISE, Idaho - SUMMIT FastNews - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Federal-Mogul Funny Car at the 29th Annual Auto Parts N Stuff Ignitor listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/ speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Roger Bateman Runs 6.430/221.40, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.400/226.47, Was #6 Right Lane: John Hyland Runs 6.160/230.17, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.103/230.94, Was #3 Bateman headed towards the centerline, and had to pedal the car to get back "over there". Hyland's Mustang sounded like it drove through the clutch, the sixty foot time wasn't very good - 1.00. The bottom line is neither driver improves... Left Lane: Mike Giuliani Runs 6.165/231.71, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.184/222.05, Was #4 Right Lane: Kerry Moreira Runs 6.130/216.24, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.338/229.00, Was #5 Moreira bought an old alky motor from Mitch McDowell during the offseason, and must like the new bullet, that is a new career best for the Richfield Idaho driver. He got near the centerline at the top end of the track, but never had to lift off the loud pedal. Giuliani was on a good run too, but lost the blower belt at the top end of the track. Left Lane: Hank Coolidge Runs 7.080/202.47, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.807/207.42, Was #8 Right Lane: Steve Sommer Runs 6.240/238.66, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.082/207.70, Was #2 Coolidge got over near the wall and had to abort his run. Sommer shook, rattled, pedaled and rolled downtrack, but doesn't improve. Hank will continue to sit on the bubble. Left Lane: Russ Parker Runs 9.240/96.27, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.071/231.83, Was #1 Right Lane: Dan McGlone Runs 5.948/237.96, Now #1; Best prior run: 8.324/100.72, Was #10 >From out of the field to the top spot, McGlone thunders down the right lane with the second quickest pass in Firebird history. The Got Milk gang in the other lane had all sorts of problems and confusion at the starting line, then the car failed to shift into high gear. Left Lane: Dave Hix Runs 8.830/104.37, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.648/209.10, Was #8 Right Lane: Jett Field Runs 6.521/231.66, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.059/165.22, Was #10 Field bumps Hix, but both drivers will have lots of work to do inside the clutch cans before next round. What an awful sound one of these Alcohol burners make when they drive through the clutch.....
