Big mover Bernstein plans to continue shaking things up in Reading

READING, Pa. - With three straight semifinals finishes in the ProtectTheHarvest/MAVTV Top Fuel dragster, driver Brandon Bernstein has moved up three spots in the Countdown to the Championship playoff standings.

He'll be looking for even more progress at this weekend's 28th annual Uni-Select Auto Plus NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway.

"We may not be qualifying as well as we'd like but on Sunday, we're there," Bernstein said. "We're able to run with anybody in the field and I can tell you it makes you feel really good when the car runs that well. The crew is feeling good too and they should; these guys have been doing a spectacular job."

Bernstein started the Countdown in eighth place and through the first half of the playoffs, he's worked his way to fifth, the biggest jump by any driver in the premier Top Fuel. He is now just 36 points behind fourth-place Shawn Langdon.

"The guys have been coming through on race day," Bernstein said. "Now we just need to get a little better in qualifying to see if we can't pick up some bonus points. We've been letting some chances for those qualifying bonus points slip through our fingers. Our focus this weekend will definitely be running well enough in qualifying to get some of those points. They very well could make the difference in the end."

To get those points this weekend, Bernstein knows the ProtectTheHarvest.com car is going to have to go fast every time out.

"Reading has a lot of trees so there's a lot of oxygen in the air," he said. "This time of year it's going to be cool, so there's the possibility of some stellar times. Cars will be running in the 3.70s (seconds) for sure.

"Our car already ran in the .70s during eliminations last weekend in St. Louis, so we're confident we'll be able to repeat that at Maple Grove."
