SCHUMACHER TO START THIRD
BAYTOWN, Tex., April 10, 2010 - U.S. Army Top Fuel driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher landed in the third starting position here Saturday following final qualifying for tomorrow's O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.
With runs of 3.818-seconds and 3.785-seconds in the final two sessions, Schumacher ended up in the top five for the fourth consecutive race.
"That was a good day right there," said Schumacher. "We were able to move up in the order from yesterday while establishing a perfect race day tune up."
Schumacher will line up alongside 14th-place qualifier, Brandon Bernstein, in the opening round of eliminations beginning at 11 a.m. CDT. It will be their first meeting of the year.
On Sunday, the Chicago-area resident will be seeking his second straight win (third overall) at HRP. He'll also be looking for his second victory of the season.
"We'll definitely be looking to add to those numbers," offered Schumacher. "I will reiterate what I've said for weeks now - we have a terrific race car that can win every time out. As long as I'm on my game behind the wheel, we should be right there contending for the trophy."
Schumacher's U.S. Army Racing teammate, Antron Brown, also put forth a quality Saturday effort. He nailed passes of 3.794-seconds and 3.777-seconds while collecting the second starting spot behind pole sitter Larry Dixon. He will square off with Spencer Massey who qualified 15th.
A seven-time world champion, Schumacher is eager to revisit the top of the standings after his Schumacher Racing teammate, Cory McClenathan, knocked him down to second-place after the Charlotte race two weeks ago.
"We want it back in the worst way," said Schumacher. "It's early in the season, but we believe the view is always better when you're number one."
