Pedregon Races to No. 15 in Final Qualifying at Houston

Baytown, Texas (April 9, 2005) -- Tony Pedregon planted the Q Racing Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car into the No. 15 spot following final qualifying for the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.

Pedregon posted a 4.919-second elapsed time at 297.16 mph, a direct result of the teamwork among each of the crewmembers and crew chief Dickie Venables to solve Friday's electrical failure. Pedregon's first pass of the day resulted in a pedaling effort of 5.005 seconds at 244.16 mph.

"We're a little better, but we don't have the fuel system where we want it to be yet," Pedregon said. "The key for us today was to get our first run in. We needed that to create a baseline for our second run.

"It was a tough situation because we really weren't where we would have liked to have been going into today," Pedregon added. "We would have been more aggressive with it if we were in a different position. The important thing is making the show. Our goal is to always qualify in the top three, which is icing on the cake when it happens, but as long as you make the show, you have a chance at winning. I like our chances tomorrow because we have a lot of good information and have had success here in the past."

Pedregon will face Phil Burkart, No. 2 qualifier, in the first round of eliminations tomorrow, which begin at 11 a.m.
