TONY PEDREGON LOOKS AHEAD TO SATURDAY
Pedregon's Car Experienced Electrical Failure

Baytown, Texas (April 8, 2005) -- Tony Pedregon, driver of the Q Racing Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car, is on the outside looking in following Friday qualifying for this weekend's O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.

The 2003 NHRA Funny car Champion, made an aggressive first qualifying run, but spun the tires. Pedregon pedaled his car and clicked off a 5.480-second elapsed time at 205.47 mph. Unfortunately, the hope of using the night's cooler conditions to his benefit was dampened when an electrical failure prevented the car from turning on at the starting line.

"Sometimes something as small as a $20 switch can have major consequences and take all the other elements (of the car) down," said Pedregon. "It is very disappointing when you make it all the way up there and the engine does not start."

Even though a good qualifying position is key, it's Sunday's elimination rounds, which determine a winner. And Pedregon knows he has an experienced team backing him up.

"My team has enough skill to allow me make good runs during Saturday's qualifying rounds. We're like Quaker State's oil, 'the hotter it gets, the better it works,'" concluded Pedregon
