DIXON FINISHES QUALIFYING IN NO. 9 POSITION AT HOUSTON

BAYTOWN, Texas (April 1, 2006) - Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon raced his Miller Lite Top Fuel dragster to the No. 9 qualifying position Saturday at Houston Raceway Park as the 38-time winner recorded a qualifying-best effort of 4.600-seconds.

Dixon's best qualifying run came on Friday's opening session when he used a tune-up from first-year crew chief Don Bender to power the Miller Lite rail to a pass of 4.600 seconds at 325.45 mph. Top Fuel racing's winningest active driver carded a 4.615, 326.56 effort on his final qualifying attempt to place him ninth in the 16-car Top Fuel order. It's the 14th time in his career that Dixon has qualified ninth.

"Once we came out and ran that 4.60, we tried to run better," Bender said. "The track wouldn't hold it on Friday night, and our car wasn't set-up for the track conditions on today's first pass. On the final pass, we backed it down and had a fuel pump go out. We were shooting for a mid-4.50 on that last pass."

Dixon will match-up against No. 8 qualifier David Baca in the opening round of eliminations on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. (CT) at the Baytown track. Dixon, a two-time winner of the Houston race, has a 7-0 career mark versus Baca.
