Anderson ends qualifying at No. 2 as today's qualifying canceled

BAYTOWN, Texas (March 31, 2007) -- Something finally slowed down Greg Anderson and his Summit Racing Pro Stock juggernaut; that something being the rain.

Rain, heavy at times, wiped out all of the scheduled activity on Saturday, officially setting the field based on only two of four qualifying sessions.

Anderson, who has won two of the first three races on the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule, placed his KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO in the No. 2 position on the final qualifying ladder for eliminations tomorrow for the 20th annual NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals.

Anderson covered the Houston Raceway Park quarter-mile in 6.665 seconds at 208.36 mph, the best of his qualifying runs on Friday. Also on Friday, Anderson set a Houston Raceway Park track speed record when he ran 208.69 mph in the evening session. He will face Larry Morgan, who qualified No. 15 in the opening round of eliminations tomorrow.

"For the most part the qualifying runs of yesterday and the ones we might have had today, and didn't have, will be of little or no help tomorrow," said Anderson after Saturday qualifying was called off. "Tomorrow is calling for sun and 80 degree temperatures, something we haven't had all weekend. The runs on Friday got us familiar with the bumps and conditions of the track, that's about it. We'll go to our little black book and find a similar day here from the past and tune accordingly."

Anderson enters eliminations leading all Pro Stock challengers at the fourth of 17 events in the Countdown to Eight segment of the Countdown to the Championship. He has 328 points, 105 more than his teammate and reigning POWERade Pro Stock champion Jason Line, who qualified No. 4 and is second in points entering eliminations in his Summit Racing Pontiac.

ELIMINATIONS: Final eliminations for all teams begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Time is local Houston time (CT) and subject to change.
