HOUSTON, Texas -- Today at the 16th annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston, Texas, Greg Anderson placed his Vegas General Construction Pontiac Grand Am third on the Pro Stock qualifying order. In the first session of qualifying on Friday Anderson, of Charlotte, N.C., drove his Grand Am to 6.727 / 205.41 mph, to safely secure him a place in the quickest and fastest Pro Stock field in the history of NHRA Drag Racing.

When eliminations get underway on Sunday morning, Anderson's opponent in Round 1 will be Jim Yates.

"I feel pretty good about my chances in eliminations tomorrow," said Anderson. "We should have qualified better than third, but I think it is a good position to start this race from.

"We ran well in the first session of qualifying on Friday. Then we just plain made a bad run on Friday night, but that was then and this is now. Friday it was a lot cooler than it is here today. It is much warmer here today, and tomorrow we should have the same conditions.

"This is Houston, and when the temperature goes up this racetrack gets hot and greasy, and that plays right into our hand. Today everyone was shaking the tire and having a hard time getting down the track. The good news is that we did not; we had low ET of both rounds today. We have a good tune up for hot weather and that is what will make the difference for us tomorrow."

Eliminations at the 16th annual O'Reilly Spring Nationals begin at 11:00 AM EST on Sunday April 12.
