Del Worsham is currently third in the NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car point standings. He was the No. 2 qualifier at Gainesville and defeated Jeff Arend before losing to Tony Pedregon in the second round of eliminations.
The Alan Johnson Al-Anabi Racing Funny Car has been a consistent qualifier early in the season. After qualifying second at Pomona and fourth at Phoenix, Worsham's Toyota Solara qualified second in Gainesville giving him an average qualifying position of 2.667.
Worsham is the defending champion of the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston. Last year, he was the No. 4 qualifier and defeated Jerry Toliver, Tim Wilkerson, John Force and Ashley Force Hood on the way to the winner's circle. Worsham also won at Houston in 2001 and was runner up in 2003.
Worsham prior to Houston:
"The car is running great; I've been saying that every race, and it just seems to keep getting better. In 2001, this race really turned my career around. We won here, and then we started winning a lot of races so Houston Raceway Park is a great place to get started.
"This is a great team; these guys were together last year. When Alan hired Aaron (crew chief Aaron Brooks) and the rest of this team, he was hiring experience, and I was the new guy. To see how this team is coming together is impressive, and I'm glad to be a part of it. I'm just waiting for everything to come completely together, and when it does, we'll start winning some races.
"I like racing at Houston for a few reasons: great friends, a lot of history and great Mexican food in town; Lupe Tortilla is one of my restaurants, so I just like racing at Houston. If we win this weekend, I'll like it even more."
