SKULL GEAR Chevy Cobalt Qualifies 12th at Houston

BAYTOWN, Texas, April 1, 2006 -- Dave Connolly and the SKULL GEAR Pro Stock team turned in their best qualifying effort of the young NHRA POWERade Series season Saturday with a 6.726-second elapsed time at 205.66 mph and he'll be starting 12th in Sunday's O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.

"That's a postive note because it's the best we've done all year," said Connolly, who races Kurt Johnson (5th, 6.706 at 205.54) in the opening round.

Ironically, each driver has struggled early, prompting Connolly to add, "I know one thing that is going to happen tomorrow: whoever the winner is will get his first round win of the year. We have been struggling but we are making progress."

Crew chief Terry Adams had the car running consistently, Connolly recording times of 6.737, 6.762, 6.728 and 6.726 seconds. "If we run just a little better Sunday, we should be in good shape."
