Millican Ends Weekend With First Round Loss at NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals

Houston - April 10, 2005 Clay Millican of Team 104+ Performance Additives/Lehman Racing ended his weekend with a first round loss in Top Fuel eliminations at the NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals.

Millican was the number nine qualifier with an elapsed time of 4.573 at 318.47 mph. He faced number eight qualifier Rod Fuller in the first round of eliminations, and they were the first pair to go down the track. In their first-ever NHRA match-up, Millican was quicker off the line with a reaction time of .052 seconds to Fuller's .076 seconds. Millican lost traction however, and finished with an E.T. of 8.984 to Fuller's quicker 4.587.

"It is always disappointing to lose, especially in the first round," said Millican. "We have always done very well at this track and I was hoping for similar results today. This 104+ Performance Additives team and I will go back to the shop, though, and work hard to make sure that we come out strong in our next race."

[104carsmall2005.jpg] This race marked Millican's third NHRA event of the season, and he has plans to race in at least three more events this year. The winningest professional driver in International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) history is also racing for his fifth consecutive Top Fuel title on that circuit, and recently won the season-opener in San Antonio, Texas, on April 1-2.

Millican's next scheduled NHRA race is the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals in Memphis, Tenn., on August 19-21. He will return to IHRA competition on April 22- 24 when he goes for an eighth consecutive Rockingham Dragway victory at the IHRA Spring Nationals with Team Werner/Lehman Racing.
