Park Ridge, IL (May 1): Losing in the second round of the Moto1.net Nationals in Richmond has only fueled the fire for reigning NHRA Top Fuel Champion, Tony Schumacher and his teammates to add another win to their 2000 record book and they would like no other place than Georgia and the Advance Auto Parts Southern Nationals to do it.

In the first six races of the year, Schumacher has been to the finals four times, has one victory and has the NHRA Winston Top Fuel points lead by 24 points over Miller Lite pilot, Larry Dixon.

"We would have loved to go more rounds last week for all the Gates Belts people we had as guests," said Schumacher, "but it was one of those days."

"We would like to go out and win this race in Atlanta. We have been very consistent all year and just have had some bad timing. With the new track surface and some additional performance we found in Richmond, this whole team is ready to get back into the winner's circle."

Schumacher and his Exide team came to this event a year ago, third in points and were defeated in the second round by Eddie Hill. Now returning as the 1999 Champion and current points leader, Schumacher is encouraged by taking top speed of last week's event, his second of the year.

"A lot of people thought we were making our horsepower all on nitro," explained Schumacher, "Dan (Olson-crew chief) just hasn't been pulling on the motor real hard yet at the top end."

"Our tune-up is really easy on parts. Many teams right now are hurting parts every pass down the track."

Qualifying for the Advance Auto Parts Southern Nationals is scheduled for Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6. Finals eliminations are scheduled for Sunday, May 7.
