The NHRA professional classes took over Atlanta Dragway today for the first day of pro qualifying. A total of 32 drivers battled to among the "quick sixteen."

Troy Coughlin was the first of the two JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass' to take on the Atlanta Dragway. Troy ran a 6.990 at 198.20 mph. He landed in the No. 4 position and was one of only four drivers to break into the six-second zone during the first qualifying session.

"We made a good run," said Troy. "There is still plenty left and we will fine tune from this run and use it as a baseline to improve from."

Jeg continued to show that he has the "hot rod" to beat. He ran an impressive 6.936 at 199.32 mph to leapfrog over Warren Johnson to take the No. 1 spot after the first session.

"That's the way that we wanted to start off this weekend," commented Jeg. "We made a nice run and we have a great baseline to fine tune from."

In the second session Troy improved his qualifying time.  He ran a 6.973 at
197.86 mph.  Troy moved to the No. 10 position.

"We will continue to make small measurable changes to the set up," commented Troy. "We went the right direction and we will just keep fine tuning from here."

Jeg started of the second session sitting in the "top spot." He did not improve during the second session. Jeg ran a 6.939 at 198.96 mph and landed in the No. 2 position.

"The car moved out of the groove a little and that hurt our qualifying time," said Jeg. "We know how to fix that and we will be ready to focus on improving tomorrow."
