The final day of qualifying gave the teams and drivers similar conditions to what they experienced on Friday. The sun continued to beat down on the track and make the racing surface slick.
In the third session Jeg Coughlin was on the outside looking. He ran an improved 6.951 at 199.05 mph to break back into the quick sixteen. Jeg landed in the No. 15 spot by the end of the session.
"We made a better run in the third session. The Jeg's Chevy Cavalier has been on the aggressive side when we have left the starting line this so far this weekend. We have been making small measurable changes and we are going in the right direction," noted Jeg.
Troy made the fourth quickest run during the third session. He ran a 6.944 at 198.35 mph. He landed in the No. 14 position when the third session was completed.
"The Jeg's Chevy Cavalier has been responding well to the small changes that we have been making. We just want to avoid making big changes to the set up right now and focus on tuning as our method of improving," said Troy.
Jeg was the first of the Team Jeg's Chevrolet Cavaliers to take on the track during the final session. He ran a 6.975 at 198.32 mph and moved down to the No. 16 position.
"We are getting a lot closer to the optimum set up for the conditions that we have here at Atlanta Dragway. Team Jeg's will be ready when the sun comes up on raceday," commented Jeg.
Troy was in the right lane for the fourth qualifying session. The Jeg's machine made another solid run for the session. He passed the finish line running a 6.996 at 197.83 mph and slipped one spot to land in the No. 15 slot.
"We will spend some time tonight as a team discussing what changes to make to the set up going into raceday. The conditions that we have today will be very close to what we should have tomorrow," said Troy.
Jeg will face off against Greg Anderson in the opening round. The two drivers have lined up next to each other five times and Jeg has won three of them. Troy and Mike Edwards will go head-to-head in the first round. Both Coughlin brothers will battle from opposite sides of the ladder. Jeg would like to successfully defend his Pro Stock victory from last year. Older brother Troy would like to win his first NHRA national event this weekend and get back into the top ten.
