Del Worsham returns to the site of his first professional win when the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing tour visits Atlanta Dragway this weekend. Worsham won the race at Atlanta Dragway in 1991 to earn his first "Wally." Last year at Atlanta Dragway, Worsham was the No.16 qualifier and lost to Ashley Force Hood in the first round of eliminations.
Worsham has advanced to the semifinals at two of the last three NHRA events. He is ninth in the NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car point standings; he trails eighth place Tim Wilkerson by nine points and leads 10th place Bob Tasca by one point.
Worsham has been a solid qualifier this season. In the season's first seven races, he has qualified second, third, 14th, fifth, seventh, first and fifth respectively. Worsham's average qualifying position is 5.29.
Worsham is still seeking his first win of the season; he won three races last year visiting victory circle in Madison, Ill., Bristol, Tenn. and Richmond, Va.
Worsham has 25 wins in his Funny Car career; he is seventh on the NHRA's all-time Funny Car wins list trailing sixth place Cruz Pedregon by just one win.
Worsham prior to Atlanta Dragway:
"Our Al-Anabi team continues to do a good job in qualifying; we've been doing it all season, and that has kept us in the top 10 in points. Just about every race weekend, we make some good runs, but we still aren't consistent. We've been to the semifinals at two of the last three races, and we qualified No. 1 in Las Vegas so the potential is there. Somehow, we just have to find some consistency so we know the Al-Anabi Toyota will go down the race track every time. I have all the confidence in our Al-Anabi Team, and I know we can get it done. We just have to keep working until we get where we all know we can be. I got my first win in Atlanta, and it would be great to get our first win of the season where I won the first race of my career."
