ANTRON BROWN QUALIFIES FOURTH FRIDAY AT ATLANTA

COMMERCE, Ga. (May 14, 2010) - Antron Brown, a three-time winner at Atlanta Dragway, raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the provisional No. 4 qualifying position on Friday evening at the NHRA-owned facility.

Brown, who enters the eighth race on the 2010 NHRA circuit ranked fifth in the NHRA Top Fuel standings, opened qualifying on a hot day in north Georgia with a lap of 4.911 seconds at 160.46 mph. The Matco Tools/U.S. Army rail lost traction on the hot Atlanta Dragway track. On Friday's evening attempt, the 24-time NHRA winner powered to a lap of 3.948 at 275.84 to finish in the provisional No. 4 qualifying position. Brown's U.S. Army Racing teammate Tony Schumacher finished 14th in the order.

"We're still working on this new race car, but it shows a lot of promise," Brown said. "We just missed it on the early run and were a little weak, but the early numbers on Friday's night run were great. We're excited to finish fourth and hope to make two good runs in the heat on Sunday."

Professional nitro qualifying will continue on Saturday with qualifying sessions scheduled for 12:15 and 3 p.m. (ET) at Atlanta Dragway. Top Fuel will run first followed by Funny Car. Brown, a three-time winner at the Commerce track, qualified fifth last May at the Atlanta race at 3.867-seconds.
