Arana Sr. seeking to retake National ET record at Reading

READING, Pa. (Oct. 4) - Lucas Oil Buell rider Hector Arana Sr. has held the Pro Stock Motorcycle national elapsed-time record two times in the past, and he arrives at this weekend's 28th annual Uni-Select Auto Plus NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway looking to get it back.

"Reading should be fast," Arana Sr. said. "It's down in a valley, surrounded by a lot of trees. The weather's going to be cool. You might see another record set there, I don't know. Maybe not by us, but let's see what happens."

Arana Sr. sits fourth in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series points standings with three races remaining in the Countdown to the Championship. His bike has been one of the fastest this season, as he leads the class with four No. 1 qualifiers.

Plus, he's qualified fourth or better in all 13 races in 2012 and has extended his personal-best streak to 19 in a row dating back to last year.

"We haven't done any improvements or picked up any horsepower lately in order to set any records, but we know we can go fast," Arana Sr. said. "We know our limits. We might go into the 6.70s if the conditions are better than last weekend in St. Louis. We're going to see."

The Pro Stock Motorcycle record is 6.750 seconds set by Eddie Krawiec at Gainesville earlier this year, though his Harley-Davidson is 30 pounds heavier now. The Maple Grove Raceway record is held by Hector Arana Sr.'s son, Hector Jr., 6.781 seconds, set in the final round last year.

Arana Sr. is coming off a semifinal appearance in St. Louis as he moved into fourth place in the points. Arana Sr. has raced to the final round twice this season, with four other semifinal appearances, as he guns for his first victory of the season.

"Anything can happen," Arana Sr. said. "As we can also see, the (Harley) V-Rods pick up on Sunday."
