Antron Brown Hopes “Lucky Dog” Comes Back For NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals
The last time Antron Brown took the Aaron’s “Lucky Dog” along for a 300-mile-per-hour ride ended in the winner’s circle, a result he hopes to repeat this weekend in his Aaron’s Dream Machine/Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster during the 11th annual NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals here at Bristol Dragway.
Since winning in Atlanta in the middle of last month, his second victory of the season, Brown has gone out in the quarterfinals in two consecutive races. The 35-year-old New Jersey native, fifth in the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel standings, cannot wait to get to the Volunteer State.
“We’re going to gear up and get after it,” said the Don Schumacher Racing driver. “The boys have been working really hard at the shop since the last race and we’ll have everything ready when things get going at Bristol.
“I’m always excited about coming to Bristol. There’s a different atmosphere here, racing between the mountains, with all that great drag-racing noise. It’s really cool to run there at night and race there on Sunday. The fans are great and they really turn out for us!”
Unique to this weekend will be two Aaron’s Dream Machines competing in the race – Brown’s dragster and DSR teammate Jack Beckman’s Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car.
“The last time I drove the Aaron’s Dream Machine/Matco Tools dragster, I was told ‘nobody beats Aaron’s’ and they were right,” he said. “And then, at the next race, Jack drove the Aaron’s Dream Machine Funny Car to a win. With two of us going this week, I like our odds of ending up on top on Sunday.”
