Anderson is on provisional pole for Sunday's NHRA season finals in Pomona

Pomona, Calif. – Greg Anderson today blistered the strip at Auto Club Raceway here today and drove his Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro onto the provisional pole for Sunday’s 48th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals here at Auto Club Raceway.

The four-time NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock Champion tore up the quarter mile in today’s lone qualifying session with a 6.527-second pass at 211.76 miles per hour or just .007 seconds off the track record.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve had a hot rod which can run to the pole like this and it feels cool,” Anderson said following the run.

“I’ve had a really fast hot rod for the last three or four races, but haven’t been able to show it as we tried to maneuver during qualifying to help (Summit teammate) Jason (Line) in his run at Allen Johnson (for the championship).

“Since that’s over, this weekend we’re just looking to run our best; to put both Camaros in the top positions during qualifying and then hope to meet in the finals Sunday.”

Anderson believes today’s runs could be a portent of things to come, including a shot at the track elapsed-time record.

“There’s no question we can do it,” he said in anticipation of Saturday’s final two qualifying rounds. “The air is going to be just as good as today and today’s run was not perfect. It’s just a matter of us executing a bit better.”

Mechanical issues limited yesterday’s initial qualifying run for the KB Racing team’s Anderson to a 6969-second lap at 161.87 mph.

Qualifying is scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, with final eliminations set to begin at 11 a.m. Sunday.
