Horsey honoured to open Rally Finland
Young Kenyan rallying talent Peter Horsey was left honoured and emotional
when he and co-driver Calvin Cooledge opened proceedings for the sixtieth
anniversary of the world famous Neste Oil Rally Finland, ending the
opening day with no dramas and pleased to have had the opportunity to run
first on the road on such a prestigious event.
After a good recce during the preceding days and a strong and positive
shakedown stage earlier on Thursday, Horsey and Cooledge, at the wheel of
their Pirelli Star Drive Mitsubishi Evo X, were well placed to take
advantage of the reverse seeding for priority drivers through the opening
stage on Thursday night. In front of a capacity crowd the pair
entertained as they tackled the opening test, and for a couple of minutes
topped the overall time sheets and officially led their first ever World
Rally!
When I won the Pirelli Star Drive nomination last year Finland was the
one rally I was most looking forward to. And so to run as first car on
the road tonight was amazing and a little emotional! Our preparations
have gone well for this event, the recce went well and the shakedown
stage has given us a good feel for the car!
The second day of action begins early on Friday morning and will see the
crews tackle ten stages around the host town of Jyvaskyla, totalling
almost 150 competitive kilometres of high speed rallying action. And with
the weather being unseasonably warm, Mombasa born Peter is in his
element!
