USF2000 National Championship Announces 2010 Schedule

PALMETTO, Fla., Nov. 24 - Officials of the USF2000 National Championship presented by Cooper Tire are pleased to announce the series' 2010 schedule, which consists of 12 races from March to October.

All but two of the races will be staged as doubleheaders to minimize travel expenses for teams participating in the Indy Racing League-sanctioned series.

The season opener is a doubleheader March 27-28 on the street circuit in St. Petersburg, Fla. in conjunction with the IZOD IndyCar Series' Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Race 3 finds the series returning to the oval at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Ind., for the traditional Night Before the 500 program on May 29.

Race 4 finds the series on another oval when it appears as part of the IZOD IndyCar Series program at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa on June 19.

Two doubleheaders staged in conjunction with the Atlantic and Star Mazda series come next when the series tackles the relatively new road courses at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, N.J. on June 26-27 and the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Ill. on July 31 and Aug. 1.

The series will then wrap up its season with doubleheaders that support American Le Mans Series (ALMS) headliners, appearing at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. on Aug. 21-22 and Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga. on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The latter date is tentative.

"We feel our 2010 schedule offers an exciting mixture of circuits and will showcase our young drivers in front of some very important teams as they strive to make their way up racing's ladder system," said Dan Andersen, chief executive officer of the series. "The bulk of the series will be contested on road courses, but the two ovals and the street course should also provide great learning experiences. We look forward to a terrific year!"

Information on test days will be forthcoming as soon as possible on the series' Web site at usf2000.com.

The series is also excited about an important announcement that is scheduled to be made at a press conference at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10 at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show in Orlando, Fla.
