Tiago Monteiro to dispute the WTCC finale
SEAT aiming for two titles in Macau
Tiago Monteiro has arrived in Macau, a former Portuguese colony, in order
to take part in the FIA World Touring Car Championship finale this coming
weekend. The driver from Oporto will have a central role to play in the
defence of SEAT Sport's two titles as two SEAT drivers and two BMW
contenders are still fighting it out for the drivers title, so Jordi
Gene, Rickard Rydell and Tiago Monteiro will aim to help their teammates,
Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini, who currently occupy the first two
places of the classification finish on top.
"Once again the fight for the title will go all the way to the finale of
the FIA WTCC. This shows that the performances are really close. The
races will be extremely important because two drivers from our team are
still able to be crowned and SEAT Sport can also clinch the title in the
constructors championship," Tiago explains, "Traditionally Macau suits
BMW better than us but we'll have our assets and I know I will play a key
role in the team strategy which is normal in a situation like this. We
are professional drivers, we work together with the same aim and
sometimes you have to redirect your effort in one way in order to secure
the best results for the team instead of trying to fight for the win. It
is clear I want to get a good result for the two last races of the year
on a track which is among my favourite and where I have always enjoyed
myself a lot."
The 29 cars that will race on the streets of Macau for the FIA WTCC
finale have already arrived at their destination where they were met by
rain and wind, a scenario that it not that common for the area. The sky
should be clear as from Thursday with maximum temperatures bordering
around the 20o.C mark. Qualifying will begin on Friday at 7:45 and can be
followed live on Eurosport, just like the races, that will get underway
on Sunday November 22 at 4:00 and 5:00
