DAVID CARDEY AT PACIFIC COAST NATIONALS THIS WEEKEND IN TULARE!
(NOVEMBER 13, 2009, RIVERSIDE, CA) As the USAC/CRA and USAC National
Sprint Car Series' converge on the famous Thunderbowl Raceway in
Tulare, California for this Saturday and Sunday's Pacific Coast
Nationals, one of the favorites is Riverside, California's David
Cardey. This weekend's event will be Cardey's second ever
appearance at the 1/3 mile clay oval.
The 34 year-old star's first appearance at the Thunderbowl came on
May 30th of this year. On that night, he was second fast qualifier,
finished fifth in his heat and 5th in the 30 lap main event. With a 25
lap main slated for Saturday night and a 40 lap main on Sunday, Cardey
hopes to better his May finish as he fights for the USAC/CRA
championship. With only three races remaining in the 2009 campaign, he
finds himself 78-points out of the top spot.
Last week, at the 14th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals at Perris Auto
Speedway, Cardey was 36th fast qualifier on Thursday. He won his heat
and placed 13th in the A main event that night. On Friday, the slender
racer qualified 23rd, won his heat for the second night in a row and came
from his 14th place starting spot to finish 9th in the A main. Those
combined finishes earned him one of the 12 coveted guaranteed starting
spots in the championship 40 lap main event on Saturday.
In Saturday's main, Cardey was strong. Running in the front six all
race, he was destined for a top finish. However, on a restart later in
the race in an incident eerily similar to Cardey's 2008 Oval
Nationals effort, he ended up against the turn two crashwall and out for
the night. He ended up 17th overall.
Last weekend's disappointment is behind Cardey and his team. They
are taking the iTi Viper 5 Bar Chassis/iTi Motorsports powered #38 to
Central California to WIN the re-incarnation of the prestigious Pacific
Coast Nationals.
After this weekend's race in Tulare, Cardey and crew will have one
weekend off before wrapping up the 2009 campaign at 2nd Annual Glenn
Howard Memorial at Perris Auto Speedway on November 28th.
