Exploits for Ekstrom and Pirro in Beijing
ROC: As many as two Audi drivers were successful at the "Race of
Champions" in Beijing: Audi "factory" driver Mattias Ekstrom -- after
2006 and 2007 -- won the competition of the world's best race and rally
drivers for as much as the third time. Ekstrom defeated his teammate Tom
Kristensen, Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button and Formula 1 record
world champion Michael Schumacher at the event. In the supporting program
the former Audi "factory" driver Emanuele Pirro secured victory in the
"ROC Beijing Challenge." The Italian prevailed against Dakar winner
Giniel de Villiers in the finale.
Frank Biela wins 24-hour race on the Nurburgring
RCCO: Last weekend, Frank Biela celebrated what may well have been the
most unusual victory in his motorsport career. Together with two
motorsport journalists the Audi driver won the mini-24-hour race on the
Nurburgring -- an endurance race for true-to-detail, scale 1:24 slot
cars. The winning car covered the record distance of 7,924 laps on the
six-lane Sudschleife -- which equates to a distance of almost 320
kilometers.
DTM champion stressed by a full calendar
DTM: Timo Scheider is currently rushing from one commitment to the next.
As the new and old DTM champion, the Audi "factory" driver is in high
demand. Among other things, Scheider attended the Bundesliga (federal
league) match between FC Bayern Munchen and FC Schalke 04 at the Allianz
Arena on Saturday. On Saturday night the DTM champion was one of the many
prominent guests at the 28th German Sports Press Ball at the "Alte Oper"
in Frankfurt, billed as "Sports without Frontiers" this year. Scheider's
Audi A4 DTM was also showcased at the press ball.
Dindo Capello challenges Valentino Rossi
Le Mans: At the "Monza Rally Show" Audi "factory" driver Dindo Capello
will again challenge motorbike world champion Valentino Rossi from
November 27 to 29. Drivers from other motorsport categories also
regularly compete against each other in WRC vehicles at the rally around
the Autodrom at Monza. Dindo Capello has won the popular event as many as
four times, in 2000, 2004, 2005 and 2008; Valentino Rossi has won twice
so far (in 2006 and 2007).
Okyama results corrected
Asian Le Mans Series: Christian Bakkerud and Oliver Jarvis have regained
their third position in the first of the two rounds of the new Asian Le
Mans Series at Okyama (Japan). A time penalty had been given to the Team
Kolles which, however, was scrapped after five hours of discussions. This
means Oliver Jarvis has clinched a podium result at his first ever sports
car race with the Audi R10 TDI.
Audi R8 LMS is one of the developments of the year
GT3: In the eyes of the expert judging panel of the "Professional
MotorSport World Expo Awards" the new Audi R8 LMS is one of the "vehicle
developments of the year 2009" -- an award that was presented at the
MotorSport World Expo in Cologne. The R8 LMS, which clinched as many as
three champion's titles and won 23 races right in its debut season, was
one of just four race cars nominated for the award -- and the only sports
car in the production-derived GT3 category.
