Danish DTC to form common series with Swedish STCC
2010 Scandinavian calendar with four common races announced
Next season the Danish Touringcar Championship will form a co-operation
with the similar Swedish series, the Swedish Touring Car Championship, to
stage common races.
"We have decided to conclude a mutually binding cooperation, where we
will be running a new Scandinavian Touring Car Cup as a superstructure
for the two countries' national championships in 2010," Peter Elgaard
from DTC A/S says.
"The basic idea behind the establishment of the Scandinavian Touring Car
Cup is that together we will become even stronger and be able to present
our spectators and TV viewers for bigger and better fields with a high
level of competition."
The Scandinavian Touring Car Cup will be run over four race weekends with
two in Sweden and two in Denmark. Besides counting towards the
Scandinavian Touring Car Cup, these four race weekends will also count
towards each country's championships, where four additional race
weekends at Danish circuits with form the remaining part of the Danish
Touring Car Championship.
"The race weekends for the Scandinavian Touring Car Cup will be unique,"
Peter Elgaard explains.
"We will work to create the same type of atmosphere as when the two
countries' national teams are playing football against each other. Like
the football matches we will start the day's activities by playing the
two countries' national anthems before finding out, which of the two
countries' drivers are best. At the same time we will also be having a
complete show package for the events, so race weekends will become an
excursion for the whole family."
In both the Danish Touringcar Championship as well as the Swedish Touring
Car Championship saloon cars based on the FIA international Super 2000
regulations from the World Touring Car Championship are used.
"Today both countries have the same technical regulations, but in
addition to that we will create a common set of sporting regulations, so
we get an identical race format, since it would not be appropriate to do
things one way when fighting for the Scandinavian Touring Car Cup, and
another way when running a domestic DTC race," Peter Elgaard explains.
The four common race meetings for the Danish Touringcar Championship as
well as the Swedish Touring Car Championship will be staged with two
before the summer break and two after the summer recess. The calendar is
as follows:
April 24th-25th 2010 abningsløbet at FDM Jyllandsringen, Denmark
June 4th-5th 2010 Goteborg City Race in Gothenburg, Sweden
September 3rd-5th 2010 GP Danmark at FDM Jyllandsringen, Denmark
September 17th-18th 2010 Sensommerloppet at Ring Knutstorp in Sweden
