Adrian Valles heads to the final Superleague Formula by
Sonangol round of the season in Jarama this weekend with the personal
backing of Liverpool FC's star names after visiting Anfield
yesterday.
Following Tottenham Hotspur title rival Craig Dolby's guest
appearance at White Hart Lane at the end of October, Valles travelled to
Merseyside to see the players in action at Melwood Training Ground. Once
finished, some of the club's Spanish contingent, including manager
Rafa Benitez, star striker Fernando Torres and goalkeeper Pepe Reina, not
to mention club captain and England International Steven Gerrard, took
time out to discuss this weekend's upcoming title showdown before
personally passing on their best wishes.
From there it was on to Anfield, Liverpool's historic home ground
and one of the most famous stadiums in world football. First stop was the
home dressing room before following in the footsteps of some of the
game's most revered players by reaching up and touching the lucky
"This is Anfield" motif that greets teams before emerging
from the tunnel and on to the pitch.
After taking in the atmospheric arena and Kop End, the steep bank of
seats where the most passionate home supporters gather, it was on to the
Anfield trophy room which has housed a record 18 English League titles,
seven FA Cups and five European Cups, amongst others.
Adrian said: "It was amazing to be with the players while they
trained. Afterwards I spoke to a few of them who said they'd been
following the championship with interest before wishing me luck. Then I
went to Anfield, which I visited for a match last season, and although it
was empty it's still a very impressive place, one of the best
grounds I've been to. It's really important for me and
Liverpool fans that I win the championship this weekend. Our destiny is
in my hands now but there's no pressure because if I just go there
and drive a normal race the result will come."
Liverpool's manager Rafa Benitez added: "It was great that
Adrian could join us on Monday and see Anfield for himself. I know the
players were looking forward to meeting him as most have an interest in
cars and have been following Liverpool's progress in Superleague Formula
all season. On behalf of the entire club, I would like to pass on the
best of luck to Adrian and the team."
Liverpool go head-to-head against fellow British club Tottenham Hotspur
this Sunday for the Superleague Formula crown. See all three races live
on British Eurosport 2 (Sky Digital 411 and Virgin Media 525) at 9am,
11.30am and 12.30pm.
