No. 12 Penske Dodge Charger News and Notes
* This Week's Charger... The No. 12 Penske Dodge team will race chassis
PRS-624 during Sunday's 400-mile NASCAR Cup Series event at the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway. PRS-624 is a brand new car to the No.12
Penske Dodge Charger fleet.
* Tested and Approved... The No. 12 Penske Dodge Charger team spent June
1-2 testing at the two-and-a-half-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway for
the Goodyear Tire Company. Driver David Stremme logged laps for the team
in preparation for Sunday's 400-mile event.
* Come and See Me... Stremme will sign autographs at the Penske Racing
souvenir trailer on Sunday, July 26 at 9:30 a.m. ET. The trailer is
located on Hulman Blvd. in the infield at the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway.
* Close to Home... Stremme considers "The Brickyard" his home track. The
32-year-old driver grew up in South Bend, which is only 138 miles north
of the famed Indiana speedway.
David Stremme on driving at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
"I am really excited about this weekend. We tested here last month for
Goodyear and felt like we really had a strong car. We were really good
on long runs, which this race is known for, so I think we are going to
have a strong weekend. There is so much history that goes with this
place. Roger [Penske] has won here 15 times [in the Indy 500], and we
all want to add to that total. This is one of the biggest races of the
year. We start down in Daytona during Speedweeks and the Brickyard kind
of kicks off the second half. [Crew chief] Roy [McCauley] and I have
been talking about what we need to do in the second half of the season
to improve. We have made some real strides in the last couple of weeks
and I am really looking forward to the second half of the year."
Crew chief Roy McCauley on racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
"Indy is one of those places that as a racer you want to win. The
feeling I get when I ride through the tunnel gives me goose bumps. Roger
[Penske] has won a lot of races here and all of us want to add to that
total. David [Stremme] did a great job here when we tested last month.
He was smooth through the corners and showed a lot of speed. We just
need to be in position when it comes down to the final laps. Indy is the
kind of place that someone else's mistake can ruin your day. We just
have to be patient and make sure we have a shot when it matters."
