First steps at Enstone
A true springboard to the upper echelons of Motor Sport, Formula Renault
3.5 Series is a breeding ground for Formula 1 stars of the future. In
order to acclimatize the Formula Renault 3.5 Series drivers to the
rarified atmosphere where research, high performance and high technology
are the watchwords, ING Renault F1 Team will welcome them to its Enstone
plant for two days. With instructors par excellence and a tailor-made
programme, the drivers will be given a taste of what will be expected of
them if they are to achieve their ultimate goal and compete in Formula 1.
The nerve-centre of the ING Renault F1 Team with its emphasis on high
technology and equipped with the finest physical training facilities for
F1 drivers, the Enstone plant is an extraordinary place, and it is very
hard to gain entry to if you are not a member of the ING Renault F1 Team.
In order to familiarize the Formula Renault 3.5 Series drivers with this
rarified atmosphere, they will be given a two-day training session on
Monday 6 and Tuesday 7, July at the end of the Silverstone meeting of the
World Series by Renault.
The first day will take place at the ING Renault
F1 Team headquarters. After being welcomed by Remi Deconinck,
Renault Sport Technologies' Managing Director, Rob Bell, ING Renault F1
Team's Chassis Technical Director will introduce the drivers to the
Enstone plant. They will discover the Technical Centre and the new
Digital Fluid Mechanics center, a state of the art installation for the
study of fluid dynamics. The demands of Formula 1 require specialized
physical training. This is what the drivers will discover when they visit
Enstone's training centre, the Human Performance Center, during the
afternoon. ING Renault F1 Team's training instructor will describe an F1
driver's physical training regime. The Formula Renault 3.5 Series
drivers will then move from theory to practice with a real life session.
The second day begins with a presentation by Pat Symonds, Executive
Director of Engineering, who will explain the driver selection process.
The last stop on this already full programme is Public Relations. An F1
driver is essentially an ambassador for the brand and the sponsors they
represent. In constant contact with the media, his job is to convey a
structured message. As such, the Formula Renault 3.5 drivers Series will
be given a session on media training, which concludes with a role play
session.
Prior to these two days, Marcos Martinez, leader in the Formula
Renault 3.5 Series will be given a real insight of what is in store as he
gets behind the wheel of a Renault F1 R28 during the ING Renault F1 Team
Show at the Silverstone round of the World Series by Renault. At the end
of the season, the 2009 champion will be given an F1 test with ING
Renault F1, as were previous champions Robert Kubica, Alx Danielsson,
Alvaro Parente and Giedo Van der Garde. More than ever, Formula Renault
3.5 Series confirms its status as a very special fast track to Formula 1.
