CANADA'S BIGGEST MOTORCYCLE ROAD RACE RETURNS TO MOSPORT WITH THE PARTS CANADA SUPERBIKE DOUBLEHEADER
(BOWMANVILLE, ON - June 23, 2009) Canada's biggest motorcycle road
racing event returns to Mosport, July 17-19, when top motorcycle riders
from across the country make their only Toronto-area stop in the Parts
Canada Superbike Doubleheader Weekend.
Mosport's 4 kilometre road course will host rounds four and five of
national Parts Canada Superbike Championship. Among those to watch will
be three- time defending champion Jordan Szoke (Kawasaki) of Brantford,
Ontario, current points leader, and Szoke's ex-teammate, Brett
McCormick (Suzuki) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and last year's
pole-sitter at Mosport, Kevin Lacombe (Yamaha) of Granby, Quebec.
Six-time champion Steve Crevier (Buell) of Maple Ridge, B.C., perennial
title contender Clint McBain (Suzuki) of Calgary, Alberta and talented
rookie Alex Welsh (Kawasaki) of Uxbridge, Ontario will also be among the
contenders at Mosport.
Making his mark in a field of champions and seasoned veterans is 14-year
old Royce McLean (Yamaha) of Coaldale, Alberta. This young phenom posted
a seventh place result in his second career start and is currently eighth
in points. Superbike championship races are set for Saturday, July 18 and
Sunday, July 19.
The newly reorganized Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike class features riders from
the former Pro 600 and Canadian Thunder divisions competing in the same
race according to separate weight and horsepower specifications. Many
riders in this class also compete in Superbike including Szoke,
McCormick, Lacombe, Crevier and Welsh. BMW Motorrad fields a two-rider
team in this group, led by two-time Superbike champion Frances Martin of
Sherbrooke, Quebec and talented up-and-comer Michael Ferreira of
Kitchener, Ontario. Mosport will host two championship races in the Pro
Sport Bike class on Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19.
The weekend schedule also includes races in the Armour Bodies Amateur 600
Sport Bike Championship, the Suzuki SV650 Cup, the Pro Honda Oils Women's
Cup Challenge and the Honda CBR125R Challenge.
Off track, BMW Motorrad Summerfest returns to Mosport for its third year.
Designed to cater to the motorcycle enthusiast, Summerfest is a
motorcycle lifestyle experience that features the BMW Marketplace, on and
off-road test rides and an off-road skills course. New for 2009 is the
addition of BMW Motorrad Enduro rider Guy Giroux, who will act as an
instructor for the off-road skills course. Music is a big attraction at
Summerfest, and the area will be rocking on Saturday afternoon and
evening with a live concert showcasing Canadian music talent.
Children ages 6 to 12 will once again have the opportunity to learn how
to ride off-road motorcycles courtesy of the YamahaRidingAcademy. This
free clinic offers professional instruction that teaches youngsters the
basic skills required to ride in a safe and fun manner.
Top manufacturers such as Suzuki will also be offering demo rides on
their latest models on neighbouring roads near Mosport throughout the
weekend. With the exception of the YamahaRidingAcademy (which supplies
all required equipment), participants for riding activities must have a
valid motorcycle license, riding gear and helmet.
A three-day SuperTicket is just $50 until July 15 ($60 at the Gate) and
each ticket includes parking, paddock admission, and entrance to Saturday
Night Stock Car racing at Mosport Speedway. Children 12 and under are
free when accompanied by a paid adult admission. Single day tickets are
also available.
General and family camping areas are available complete with full-service
washrooms, showers and children's playgrounds. An advanced three-day
weekend general camping pass is just $30 (for tents or pop-up trailers).
RVs are $50 for the weekend.
For those looking to enjoy a Mosport VIP experience, tickets to the Grand
Prix Club are also available for $90. The Grand Prix Club includes a
