RaceRedi Pontiac turns in 6.589-second run on Saturday
Dinwiddie/Richmond, Va., Oct. 12, 2008 -- Justin Humphreys needed his
quickest Pro Stock run of 6.589 seconds Saturday on his final qualifying
attempt to push the RaceRedi Pontiac GXP into the 14th starting berth in
what is the quickest 16-car Pro Stock field in NHRA history.
All the drivers recorded times of 6.5 seconds, going from 6.554 to 6.590.
"It's a nice feeling," said a relieved Humphreys, who lives in Monrovia,
Md., less than a two-hour drive from VMP. "My (crew) guys worked hard to
get that (time). We changed motors Friday night and Frank (Gugliotta,
crew chief) did a good job tuning the chassis.
"Running our quickest time to get into the field was cool, too," he
continued. "We have a pretty good tune-up but we hope to run a little
quicker Sunday."
His first-round opponent is Allen Johnson (No. 3, 6.555 seconds).
