STILL FRESH IN MY MEMORY
A narrow escape. During a GP2 sprint race this Sunday
morning, Bruno Senna was involved in a 280kph collision with a dog that
had got loose onto the track. It took another 30 minutes after the race
had finished before Senna was able to get over his initial fright and
anger and calm his still distraught mother Viviane.
"It's incredible. It's not as if we're in the back of beyond here. This
is supposed to be a Formula One circuit," complained Senna in
conversation with Motorsport Magazin adrivo.com. The incident occurred
after a brow of a hill at a blind spot on the track. "I had three tenths
of a second to react," added Senna. "I hit him with my front right wheel.
It was lucky for me that I caught him with my tyre because if I'd hit him
head on and he'd been thrown up in the air, the outcome could have been
very different..."
Senna managed to nurse his damaged GP2 racer back to the pits where he
was up in arms about the accident: "You don't really expect to collide
with a dog when you're doing 280kph. The picture of that dog running
across the track is still fresh in my memory."
