Youth Verses Experience

Zwartkops World of Motoring, hosts the penultimate round of the 2007 Pro Tour South African National Formula Vee Championship, on the 29th September, with the battle at the head of the field becoming more and more, one of youth versus experience. At the beginning of the year, the highly experienced current and ex Champions, in the form of Alan Holm (No1 Laser Sprint Rhema 2), Peter Hills (No2 Vacuform Rhema 2), Symm Grobbler (No5 Auto Mecca Rhema 2) and Dennis Johns (No8 Geyser Attorneys Rhema 2), dominated the head of the field. That has however, shown signs of changing in recent races.

Jaco Schriks (No3 Laser Sprint Rhema 2) is often a serious threat to the lead bunch, while ex Karter Trevor Bland (No6 Rhema 2) and sixteen year old development driver Courtney Steenveld (No23 NLDTF Indy Oil Rhema 1) have also run with the lead bunch, in recent events and could be right up there again, at Zwartkops. Also getting closer to the head of the field, is University of Kwazulu Natal engineering masters student Zaahir Essa (No71 NLDTF Rhema 1) and Pretoria's Johan Gouws (No27 Computer Assemblies Mantis), while Azeem Boomberg (No28 Rhema 1) made a promising debut in the category, at the recent Kyalami event and with the car properly sorted out and a bit more seat time, he could be a lot closer to the lead bunch, as well.

Once again there should be plenty of other duels and close multi car battles all the way down the field, involving the likes of James Leach (No52 Auto Fair Rhema 1), Jannie Geyser Jnr (No60 Geyser Attorneys Rhema 2), Jannie Geyser (No7 Geyser Attorneys Vision), Bradley Martin (No14 Rhema 2), Ben Pienaar (No101 BJ Pro Welding Rhema 1), Doug MacDonald (No18 Fantastic Racing Rhema 1), Gareth Jackson (No10 Laser Sprint Rhema 2), Gert Van Den Berg (No40 Rhema 1), Nico Blignaut (No26 Gilus IT SAP Rhema1), Denver Pienaar (No50 Vision) and Bobby Nel (No20 USN Ayanda Solutions Mantis). The recent Kyalami race, even saw Charles Roets (No41 Sting) and John Lerm (No55 Racing For Wildlife Sting) locked in battle, at the back of the field as well.

With the possibility, of a few more drivers joining in, including Lucky Thomaides (No120 Midrand Diesel Rhema 2), the Zwartkops Formula Vee races should provide plenty of entertainment and keep the crowd on the edge of their seats. Throw in a couple of National Championship races, for Hollard Shelby Can Am cars and Formula Ford Zetec, a couple of Regional Championship races for the Altech Porsche Challenge, featuring a couple of very potent GT2s, a Le Mans 956, a replica 917 and 935, a couple of Ferrari 360 Cup cars and the possibility of a Ferrari P4 replica, together with Regional Championship races for VW Challenge and Super Saloons, a handicap race for Altech Porsche 924 Challenge and the return of bike racing to Zwartkops, with races for the Altech Kawasaki ZX10 Masters Cup and Zwartkops Thunder Bikes, makes the Pro Tour race meeting on the 29th September, defiantly one not to be missed. See You at Zwartkops.
