Rain remains Monday at Michigan International Speedway for a second
consecutive day. As teams wait, Earl Barban, a crewmember and spotter for
the No. 38 M&M's Ford Fusion driven by David Gilliland, says,
although an inconvenience, dealing with rain is part of the job.

SOMETIMES, WHEN A RACE IS DELAYED ONE DAY BY RAIN, THAT DAY OFF
CAN BE VIEWED AS A DAY OF REST. BUT, WHEN DOES THE DELAY GO FROM REST TO
A NUISANCE? "I think the standing around is the nuisance. We come
here to race and do our thing, and we want to get this done and move on
the next event. Guys like me, we eat all day -- and that's a
nuisance. That's about it. The rain is just something we have to
deal with."
BECAUSE YOU'RE HERE TO WORK, HOW DOES A DAY LIKE TODAY, FOLLOWING A
DAY LIKE YESTERDAY, NOT BECOME A LOST DAY? CAN ANYTHING POSITIVE COME OUT
OF TODAY? "Nothing, really. Maybe get to know the team better
because all you do is sit around and talk and tell some lies. That, and
eat too much."
HOW MUCH TIME DOES THE TEAM NEED TO GET READY TO GO TO BRISTOL FOR
SATURDAY NIGHT'S RACE? "We'll be ready to go. Every
team in here will be ready to go. We'll leave here and get back to
the shop, at whatever time, and all of the employees, however many it
takes, will be out there to swap out the truck. The Bristol car and parts
are right there, right now, ready to go. If it wasn't, we
shouldn't be here. Our mentality is to do whatever it takes."
