January 28, 2002 (Valencia, Calif.) - Team Walker Motorsports announced today that it will expand its program in 2002 to include events in the NASCAR Winston West Series and the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring, as well as a full-time Super Late Model program.

Team co-owner Michael Walker will compete in Mesa Marin's Super Late Model program, as well as selected Winston West and Southwest Series events.

"I'm planning to use the touring division races as learning experiences," Walker indicated. "I'm going to take this season race by race, make an honest effort at each event, learn what I can, and use that information to make decisions about the next move."

Walker will launch his 2002 season at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway in this Saturday's Winston West event, the Winter Heat Presented by Bosch.

In 2001, Walker made his first Winston West start from a 15th place position on the grid, outpacing his original expectations and outqualifying several of the Winston West regulars. He also set his first fast time in his Super Late Model career last July.

Meanwhile, Sean Woodside will field the team's #45 Winston West car, and will also run selected events in the Southwest Series throughout the season.

"I'm really looking forward to getting into a Southwest Series car again," Woodside said. "I had a great time in that series in the 2000 season. The schedule is great, and the competition is intense."

He continued, "As good a time as I've had in the Winston West over the past five years, I'm looking forward to the variety of running in both series."

Woodside won the 2001 Bud Pole Award for the most poles won in the Winston West Series last season. He and the team finished the 2001 Winston West season in sixth place in the point standings, with five-top five and eight top-ten finishes.

Woodside inked one win, four top-five and eight top-ten finishes in the 2000 Southwest Series season.

He is entered in both the Winston West event and in the Featherlite Southwest Series "100" Presented by Bosch this Saturday at Phoenix International Raceway.

Donna Walker, co-owner of Team Walker Motorsports, said "We have taken a lot of time over the last couple of months to consider our options. After much discussion and many team meetings, we decided it is in our best interests to diversify this year, and gain some solid experience in the Southwest Series cars. It is such a competitive series, and has launched the careers of so many drivers now competing at the national level, that we feel this direction is worthwhile."

She continued, "We also feel that we have a great chance for a successful run in the Winston West series this season, and will put forth our best effort there as well."

More information is available at the team's Web site at www.teamwalkermotorsports.com.

Team Walker Motorsports is a multi-team racing operation owned by Donna Walker and her son, Michael. The Valencia, Calif.-based team fields cars in the NASCAR Winston West Series, the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring, and in Mesa Marin Raceway's Super Late Model division featuring former Winston West champion Sean Woodside and Michael Walker. Team sponsors include NAPA Filters, Ron's Rear Ends, Mechanix Wear and Tri-State Construction.
