Orleans 222 NASCAR Winston West race returns to the Bullring.

LAS VEGAS -- NASCAR's most exciting West Coast racing series will return to the southwest's most exciting short track on April 12, 2003.

The NASCAR Winston West Series will make its third stop in three years at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the running of the Orleans 222. It will be the second race on the 2003 NASCAR Winston West Series schedule.

"No short track in the west has better racing than the Bullring, and bringing back a high profile series like the Winston West only raises the quality of the Bullring's racing program," said Chris Powell, LVMS president and general manager. "The Orleans Hotel and Casino has been instrumental in the success of this event. The long-time partnership between Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Michael Gaughan and his staff at Coast Resorts continues to grow and bring top-notch motorsports events to Las Vegas."

NASCAR announced last month new rules for the NASCAR Winston West Series, which include rules identical to those of the NASCAR Busch Series. This rule change will make more cars compatible with the series rules and should boost competition.

Austin Cameron of El Cajon, Calif., is the defending champion of the Orleans 222. Other companion events for this weekend will be announced in January.
