Warn is Going Back to his Racing Roots at Infineon
AURORA, OR. (June 17, 2008) For Jim Warn, driver of the MJ2 Racing Chevrolet on the NASCAR Camping World Series, a visit to the wine country of Northern California has been on his mind since last winter. Warn started his racing career at age 15 competing in various divisions on the road courses of the Northwest and the Bennett Lane Winery "200" this weekend will take the young driver back to the beginning.
"This is a race that I have been waiting for all season," Warn said. "Road racing is a blast and to compete at one of the most picturesque facilities in the country is going to be special. I am really looking forward to the race and I know we have a car that will be competitive."
Although Warn has experience in road racing, the NCWS cars present unique challenges. "These cars are so heavy it is a big change from the kind of cars I ran in the past," Warn said. "You have to really finesse these cars around the track. You have to rely on your eyes because where your eyes go your hands will follow. This race is 64 laps and you have to complete every one of them without making a mistake if you hope to be at the front of the field."
"We tested really well back on June 10th and I feel we got the car right where it needed to be," Warn continued. "Tom Dyer worked with us on breaking points and the right line to take all around the track. His input and assistance really improved my learning curve for this race." Dyer is a road racing ace who has won in all types of vehicles at Infineon Raceway. He won the final NASCAR Southwest Series race held at the facility in 2006.
Warn is excited to put his skills to the test this weekend at Infineon Raceway. "Infineon raceway is one of those race tracks you dream about competing on," Warn said. "I know the atmosphere will be electric with all the fans in town for the big NASCAR weekend. I am excited for our team to show well and I look forward to the race."
Warn drives a team car to Jeff Jefferson and is sponsored by MJ2 Racing, Gran Prix Imports, and Leupold Optic. The car is powered by a Chevrolet NASCAR Spec Engine and sits atop a Hopkins chassis. Warn is in his rookie campaign on the NCWS and has five career starts with one top ten finish this season. Warn currently sits third in the Sunoco Rookie-of-the-Year standings and 15th in the overall driver standings after five races.
The Bennett Lane Winery "200" at Infineon Raceway is round six of the 13-race NASCAR Camping World Series-West schedule for 2008. The race will be televised live on HDNet with the green flag slated for 12:30 pm (PT) and set for an enhanced reply on SPEED Channel July 8 at 1:00 pm (ET). 2008 is the 55th year of competition for the NASCAR Camping World Series-West.
