First pole of the season comes on 36th birthday

ROSEVILLE, Calif. -- Eric Holmes, on his 36th birthday, won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Coors Light Pole Award for the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at All American Speedway.

Holmes, out of Escalon, Calif., timed in at 13.770 seconds for an average speed of 87.059 mph. It is his first pole of the 2010 season and the 13th of his series career. With the right set of circumstances in the race later in the evening, Holmes could secure his third series championship.

Starting alongside Holmes on the front row is Jacob Gomes, who registered a qualifying time of 13.812 seconds (86.794 mph) for his first series start. Gomes was the 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national Rooie of the Year presented by Jostens.

Qualifying third was Michael Self with a time of 13.814 seconds (86.782 mph). Paulie Harraka, who is looking for his third straight win at All American, qualified fourth at 13.844 seconds (86.593 mph).

The remainder of the top 10 qualifiers is Eric Schmidt, defending series champion Jason Bowles, Luis Martinez, Jr., Jonathan Gomez, Juan Pitta and David Mayhew.

The Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts is scheduled to go green at 8:30 p.m. PT.
